UK food database

Nutrition information for UK restaurant dishes, supermarket brands and everyday foods.

Common Questions

Is the Boone food database free to use?+

Yes. You can look up any food, brand or restaurant dish without paying and without creating an account.

Do I need an account to search?+

No. Searching and browsing are open to everyone. An account is only needed if you want to log what you eat in the Boone app.

What nutrition information do you show?+

Calories, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrate, sugar, fibre, protein and salt for each item, with micronutrients where the data is available.

How does the portion calculator work?+

Choose a portion size, then set the age and sex of the person eating. The figures update to show what that portion means against their daily reference intake.

Which guidelines are the figures based on?+

Published UK reference intakes, including the free sugar limits by age group and the adult daily guidelines for fat, salt and fibre.

Does it work for adults or only children?+

Both. Every calculator covers adults alongside the 15 to 18, 11 to 14, 7 to 10 and 4 to 6 age bands.

Where does the nutrition data come from?+

Manufacturer and restaurant published figures for branded items, and the Public Health England CoFID 2021 dataset for everyday foods.

What if the food I want is not listed?+

New brands and restaurants are added regularly. The Boone app can also log a meal from a photo or a description and match it to nutrition data.

Is this medical or dietary advice?+

No. The information is for general guidance only. Speak to your GP if you have persistent symptoms or specific dietary concerns.
