Costa UK publishes total sugar for every drink, but total sugar includes the lactose in milk, which health guidance does not limit. Boone separates free sugars, the added and syrup sugars SACN caps at 30g a day for an adult, and ranks all 236 items on that basis. A Medium Latte shows 14g of total sugar but 0.2g of free sugar, because almost all of it is lactose.
The Red Berries Fruit Cooler (Medium) leads the menu at 53g of free sugar, 177% of an adult's daily limit and 279% of the 19g limit for a four to six year old. 22 items on the UK menu exceed the adult limit on their own, and 66 exceed the limit for a young child.

Boone derives free sugars rather than using the total sugar Costa publishes. Lactose in milk is deducted at 1.25g per gram of milk protein, a ratio taken from Costa's own unsweetened milk drinks, because NHS daily limits do not count the sugars naturally present in milk. Sugars in oat, soya and coconut drinks, fruit coolers and refreshers are counted as free sugars.
Daily free sugar limits are 30g for adults and teenagers, 24g for ages 7 to 10 and 19g for ages 4 to 6.
Every drink is listed with semi-skimmed milk, the default Costa serves unless you ask otherwise. Oat, soya and coconut versions of each drink have their own pages and can be compared in the calculator on any item page. Each size is listed separately, because size changes the figures more than flavour does.
