Scores use the government’s nutrient profiling model 2018 (DHSC technical guidance, January 2026), calculated per 100g. Portion weights are worked out from Pizza Express’s own per-portion and per-100g figures. Penalty points are given for energy, saturated fat, free sugars and salt, and points are taken off for fibre, protein and fruit and vegetable content. Foods scoring 4 or more and drinks scoring 1 or more are classed as less healthy. The model is published but not yet used for advertising rules.
Pizza Express publishes fibre, so fibre is scored. It does not publish fruit, vegetable, nut or seed content, so that component scores zero except for juices, smoothies, the mixed leaf salad, slow-roasted tomatoes and olives. Free sugar follows the same rules as the sugar ranking. Teas with milk are left out because the published per-100g figures describe the milk rather than the cup.
