Every Tesco own-brand breakfast cereal, 47 in all, from corn flakes and granola to porridge sachets, measured against what a specific person needs in a day rather than an adult average. This page covers Tesco's own label only, including Tesco Finest, Free From, Stockwell & Co. and Grower's Harvest. Branded cereals sold at Tesco, such as Kellogg's and Weetabix, are not included.
Free sugar, separated from the rest. A box gives one total sugar figure. NHS daily limits count only free sugars, not the sugar naturally in whole dried fruit or milk. Tesco Sultana Bran has 21.5g of sugar per 100g, but only 4.3g of it is free sugar; the rest comes from the sultanas. Tesco Frosted Flakes has 22.3g, and all of it is free sugar.
Every bowl set against an age, with milk. A 30g bowl of Tesco Honey Nut Corn Flakes is 7.8g of free sugar: 26% of an adult's daily limit and 41% of the limit for a child aged 4 to 6. Each product page lets you change the portion and the milk, including oat drink, whose sugar also counts as free sugar.
8 of the 47 have no free sugar at all: the plain oats and the mueslis with no added sugar. 26 are ultra-processed (NOVA 4), most often because of flavourings, glucose or invert sugar syrup, or added protein. On the government's 2018 nutrient profiling model, 15 would pass and 32 would be classed as less healthy.
Easy Oats sachets are labelled for the sachet made up with semi-skimmed milk, and the Instant Oats pot for the pot made up with water, so Boone has converted them to the dry contents to compare them fairly with everything else.
