Taco Bell publishes total sugar only. Boone counts it as free sugar for almost every item, because the sugar comes from added sugars, dextrose and syrups in the tortillas, sauces, seasonings and drinks. The exceptions are sour cream, guacamole, black beans, jalapeños and water, where the sugar is naturally occurring. Small amounts of lactose from cheese and sour cream inside composite items are not deducted, so figures for those items are a slight overestimate.
Taco Bell’s published standalone figures for its quesadillas and its published drink volumes contain errors. Boone takes each quesadilla’s figures from Taco Bell’s own meal totals, and recalculates drinks from the published per 100ml figures at 330ml for a can, 500ml for a bottle, 473ml for a regular cup and 650ml for a large cup. Meals, boxes and sharing bundles are not ranked; each has its own page.
NHS daily free sugar limits are 30g for adults and ages 11 and over, 24g for ages 7 to 10 and 19g for ages 4 to 6.
