Instant noodles and pots: salt, calories and what the sachet adds

Every instant noodle, pot and packet meal broken down by portion, with the seasoning sachet compared against NHS daily salt limits.

The noodles carry the calories and the sachet carries the salt. Most of the salt in an instant noodle product is in a few grams of seasoning powder.

Where the salt actually is

A single pot can carry between a third and two-thirds of an adult's daily salt allowance, and can exceed the entire allowance for a child aged 4 to 6.

Using part of the sachet reduces the salt proportionally, which is the simplest available change and does not affect the calories.

Fried versus air-dried noodles

Most instant noodles are flash-fried during manufacture, which is why they carry meaningful saturated fat despite containing no obvious fat source. Air-dried varieties sit lower.

Reduced-fat and reduced-salt versions exist across most ranges and differ substantially from the standard product.
