Pizza: calories, salt and saturated fat per slice and per pizza

Every pizza broken down per slice and per whole pizza, with base, size and topping compared against NHS daily reference intakes for children and adults.

Pizza is the category where the serving unit does most of the work. A slice figure means nothing without the slice count, and slice counts vary from four on a personal to twelve on an XXL.

Base and size change everything

A stuffed crust adds cheese and dough to the same topping, and a thin base removes a substantial share of the calories and carbohydrate. The same named pizza can differ by more than double between a personal thin and a large stuffed.

Salt is the figure that catches people out. A large pizza can exceed an adult's entire daily salt allowance on its own, because dough, sauce, cheese and cured toppings each contribute.

Toppings matter less than you would expect

Vegetable toppings change the calorie figure surprisingly little, because the cheese and base dominate. Pepperoni, sausage and bacon raise both saturated fat and salt meaningfully.

Cheese quantity is the biggest topping variable. A margherita and a heavily topped meat pizza can sit closer together than a standard and an extra-cheese version of the same pizza.
