Crisps and savoury snacks: salt and saturated fat by bag

Every crisp and savoury snack broken down by bag rather than per 100g, with salt compared against NHS daily limits for children and adults.

Crisps are a salt and fat product before they are anything else. Sugar is close to irrelevant. What matters is salt against the 6g adult daily limit, lower for children, and the saturated fat from the frying oil.

Bag size is the real variable

Multipack bags run around 25g, grab bags around 45g and sharing bags 150g or more. The same crisp in a sharing bag carries six times what the multipack version does.

Sharing bags are frequently finished by one person, which makes the stated portion figure optimistic. Per-bag is the number that reflects what is eaten.

Frying method and flavour coating

Kettle-cooked and ridge-cut crisps absorb more oil than thin-cut, so they carry more fat per gram. Baked and popped varieties cut fat substantially but not always salt.

Flavour coatings add salt on top of the base. Plain salted is not always the saltiest option, and strongly flavoured varieties often carry more.
